Understanding Unconditional Admissions and Your Acceptance

Understanding Unconditional Admissions and Your Acceptance

As many of us are aware, US colleges are unlike the UK in the sense that they offer unconditional admissions to students. What this means is once you’re in, you’re in! Once you have got a letter from the college saying that you’re in, you can get ready and pack your bags to go. Many students might be confused as they have big exams that are much later in the school year. However, there are still certain conditions that US colleges expect students to keep without explicitly saying. Here, we look into what are some things that might revoke your admission and what are the things that you need to do to make sure
your admission still stands.

Graduating High-school

Many students that are aware they’re accepted into college could not care less about their high-school grades, this leads to a dip in their grade from the lack of attention and willingness that they have in school. A slight decrease in your grades might not get
them to revoke your admission. However, a huge decrease in your grades might get them to contact you to ask for an explanation to the cause of that decrease. Furthermore, you will need to graduate high-school in order to attend college in the fall. One of the few
conditions for an unconditional admission is for students to graduate from high-school.

Plagiarism

Having done your own work is very crucial. Plagiarism is a part of an academic integrity that students must have going into college. If caught within your school, it is a serious matter that colleges take very seriously. Schools will definitely report this behavior
to college as this is something that is very important and can not be overlooked. Avoid plagiarism at all costs and do your own work.

Binding Agreements

In another blog, we covered the type of early admission and one of them was early decision. The important thing about early decision is the binding agreement that comes with it. If students were to break this promise and decide to enroll into another school, this will lead to a conflict of the agreement. When this happens, both colleges can revoke your acceptance and lead you to not having any school you can enroll in for the fall. Students need to honor this agreement as it is really important. In the case in which you do not want to be considered for an early decision, reach out to that college and discuss your options. Some colleges can release students from early decision agreements or defer them to regular admission.

Bad Behavior

Bad behavior covers from problems at school to problems with the law. If you were suspended or expelled, colleges have the right to understand what is the case and what is happening. In the case where you were expelled, there could be a chance you will not
graduate high-school. Bad behavior also includes any unlawful acts, if you were to be reported by the police or get arrested, it is something that can definitely lead to the revoking of your admission.

Online Presence

Make sure you have a positive online presence. One of the things that students often overlook is their social media and their online presence. Students often have many of their social media account public, and majority of them are under the age of legal drinking.
This leads to an understanding that the student is breaking the law. In addition, many admission officer takes this time to understand what student does online, what they post and react about online. Hate and anything that is negative will not be tolerated by the admission officer, as this is not what they want coming to their campus. It is important to understand your consequences when you post something and really think about what you are putting out there.
